I have been painting all my life. Sounds cliche, but it's true. In elementary school, I remember lying underneath the craft table painting the underside of the table top pretending to be Michelangelo painting the ceiling of the "Sixteenth Chapel." Flash forward several decades, I set up an art studio for myself (and my talented daughter) because I decided that, once again, I was going to paint. I NEEDED to paint. It was like coming home again. This was not only the birth and evolution of new paintings, but the birth of a art gallery business. Slowly, I've added decorative pillows and silky scarves in the designs of my paintings to my product line and began to sell them online, and through social media. I am lucky enough to be part of the growing family of artists as I represent several very talented Long Island artists.
This business, which started so many years ago underneath my childhood craft table, was born out of the need to create beautiful things with color and shape and texture. In painting, I found a peaceful space to block out the complications of the world and be one with myself. Imagination is something we all share as humans, and letting it out to take shape creatively is a blessing. The sale of our originals, limited edition runs, prints, and decorative pillows give me the opportunities to help others add beauty and color to their homes and businesses. And my scarves are wearable art that add personality, zest, flair and beauty to anyone's wardrobe.
Ellen Ellner is a world traveler. She is inspired by shape, vivid colors and the interplay between light and darkness. She passionately paints what she sees in each country she visits – architectural structures like doorways, windows, and stairways; figures – people, and animals; landscapes - sunrises, sunsets, and lakes. Ellen is a native of Long Island, but has won numerous awards for her paintings in Connecticut and Florida. As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, family is very important to her.
Tim Stachecki-Okrah is a life-long artist and designer. His multi dimensional approach to creativity includes many media types, from painting, to clay, to fabric design and photography. He brings his ideas on art and his experiences in the psychology of color to curating interiors and living spaces. "Trends are useful for those people who need guidance on design, but trusting your eyes and heart to inform you is always going to be more satisfying. I love to help people find that spark of excitement when they look at art, or objects, and bring life and passion to design."
Tim likes to run out ahead of trends in art and design, preferring to make mistakes and breakthroughs alike at a fast pace. "It's not a zero sum game, being an artist. It's not like every idea has to work out, because being an artist means never running out of ideas, never being stuck with what you did yesterday, good or bad."
When I was a small child, I drew on every surface with any tool I could get my hands on. Much to the alarm and entertainment of my parents, I frequently drew murals on the living room walls and fronts of furniture with Sharpie markers. In school, my favorite time of day was when I was allowed to draw and paint - I was driven to express myself with color and shapes. As I got older, this love and desire never faded; it actually intensified. The Art League of Long Island became my art home away from home with yearly classes and art shows. Throughout school, my artistic palette grew and I continued to expand and refine my skills while exploring a wide variety of themes and emotions and the art studio in home has become my salvation. I am studying interior design and painting to continue to refine my skills as an artist and help me bring color, shape and beauty into the world.
I use many different mediums, such as acrylics, ink, colored pencils, and pastels. Working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style with a variety of different media and size scales. I enjoy running in my spare time and many of my pieces are directly influenced by nature. My art allows me to recreate the world around me and express the emotions I feel. Making the world more colorful and more beautiful one painting at a time.
